Andrea Mitchell

Andrea Mitchell is an American anchor for a television newscast and a commentator for NBC News based in Washington D.C. Following a childhood within New York City, Mitchell earned a BA in English literature from The University of Pennsylvania. Mitchell began her career with KYW Radio and TV as a Philadelphia reporter in 1967. She joined the CBS station WDVM-TV (then WTOP) in Washington DC in 1976. Within two years she was hired by NBC News as a Washington correspondent. In 1980, she began covering the White House. 1988 became the chief congressional journalist. She became chief White House reporter in 1992, and chief Foreign Affairs reporter for NBC News. Mitchell has appeared as a guest on TV news program Meet the Press as a panelist and host. Mitchell was on an audience for the 1988 debates between George Bush (then president) and Michael Dukakis. Mitchell is married to Alan Greenspan former chairman of the Federal Reserve Board. Mitchell was awarded the Goldsmith Career Award in Journalism in 2005, which was awarded by the John F. Kennedy School of Government. The Radio-Television News Directors Association awarded Mitchell Leonard Zeidenberg the award in 2004 for her role in protecting First Amendment Freedoms. Mitchell initially covered for the White House for NBC News from 1981 to 1988, during both Ronald Reagan's presidency. Mitchell covered a range of notable stories, including weapons control, the budget tax reform and the Iran-contra scandal. She also traveled extensively together with the President Reagan for summits together with Mikhail Gorbachev and other world top leaders.
